It's not too early to talk about the second annual International
Chili Cook Off, that's a worthwhile fundraiser for Centro de Crecimiento. The
first cook off was a terrific event, and a relatively inexpensive way to contribute
back to the community. This year it's January 26th, at Real de Minas Hotel. Eight
champion cooks from Texas have been invited to bring on their best Chili, and
one of Texas' best known singers, Thomas Michael Riley, also will be on hand
to provide entertainment. There will be a troupe from Dolores Hidalgo that will
perform on dancing horses in the hotel's bullring adjacent to the cook off area.
Separate competitions will determine best beans, margaritas and crazy hats. Entry
fee for the chili cook off is $200 pesos until January 12th. After that, it's
$250 pesos. Fee for other vendors is $300 pesos. Pick-up and return entry forms
and fees go to Keith Thompson, at VIP Club participating Longhorn Smokehouse,
next to the Palapa just behind Espinos' grocery store, calle Nueva #8. Telephone:
044-415-109-8795. For more information or your participation call Mary Jones:
152-0426.
